well, dats d ansr gvn in the buk i got, bt cudnt find ne ref. shouldnt it b inltration of intima with lipid wich is the constant step? besides,isnt endothelial injury a sequelae of lipid accumulatn , macrophage ingestion and release of cytokines??

endothelail injury is indeed the first and most imp step that eventually leads to lipid accumulation,and cytokine release etc..

ATHEROSCLEROSIS is a generalised response of artery wall to injury.
the endothelial damage leads to smooth muscle migration into the intima and proliferation.
finally there is extracellular lipid deposition.
