Re: treatment of chronic hepatitis B
ref CMDT( 42Edi, pg636)
treatment of chr Hep B-
1)recombinant alpha 2b interferon 10million units 3 times a week im for 4 mths.
40% cured by this esp if HBV DNA is < 200pg/ml at the beginning.
pts with HBeAg -ve chr hepB have response rate of only 15-25%.
2) Lamivudin 100mg OD.
better tolerated.
normalises raised aminotransferases in > 40%
better in HBeAg-ve chr hepB also.
COMBINATION USE OF INTERFERON AND LAMIVUDINE OFFERS NO ADVANTAGE.
So, from this the answer could be Interferon or Lamivudin.
but because lamivudin is given orally and is better tolerated it is the answer i think.
treatment of chr hep C is- PEGYLATED INTERFERON with RIBAVIRIN.
